After you have located the shut-off valve to the sprinkler supply line, set the valve to the off position.
Once you have located the backflow, use a flathead screw driver to turn the screw so that it is in a parallel position with the test cock valve. (example shown is non-parallel)
After completing steps 1 & 2, now it is time to drain any remaining water in the backflow, simply grab a bucket and open the drain. (Please note, in some cases your drain may be attached to the backflow outside)
In this step you will need your flathead screw driver and a pair of channel locks to set the test cock valves and ball valves to a 45 degree position.
Now it is time to set your control unit to the off position.
After you have completed steps 1 - 6, now it is time to re-close your drain to prevent the compressed air being blown back into your basement. You may close drain after winterization is complete and if the drain has stopped draining.
